Ammar Adenwala (b. Bombay, India) is an artist, researcher, and geographer. His work focuses on the embodied experience of space and the translation of spatial experience into representational forms. His practise builds an iterative loop between these two poles, central to the cartographic tradition, experience and representation.
Through ethnographic fieldwork and long-distance walking, he questions how it is we come to know the world around us, how we feel its textures and trace its contours. Working across photography, video and installation, he explores how we render spatial experience into communicable forms, which in turn configure the way we experience the world. His body of work proposes a logic of cartography that maps space as a mediated event, rhythmic and affective.
